Hand and Wrist Pain; Preventive Measures

Hand and wrist pain stems from disease, such as arthritis, as well as from injury, including fractures and breaks. There are some measures we can take to limit our risks of developing problems.

In addition to arthritis, diabetes is a disease that can cause hand and wrist pain. So the question we should ask ourselves is what can we do to limit our chances of developing these conditions?

While exercise may not be the answer to preventing arthritis it can help relieve the ache associated with the ailment. As for diabetes, exercise may be the best preventive measure. Physical activity will help you to maintain a healthy weight and help keep the body functioning better in general.

Exercise can also strengthen muscles and ligaments and make the body less susceptible to injuries such as sprains, strains, fractures and breaks.

Another way to prevent these pain causing diseases is to eliminate unhealthy practices such as smoking and consuming large amounts of alcohol. It is amazing the number of people who continue to smoke when there is overwhelming evidence outlining the negative effects of the habit. Cigarettes are poison to good health.

What is even more difficult to understand is the number of people who take up smoking when they are aware of the possible consequences. It is much easier to stay smoke free if you never take the first cigarette. As millions of people can attest, once the body becomes dependent on the nicotine, attempting to quit can be an endless struggle.

Another way to avoid hand and wrist pain is to take regular breaks when doing repetitive motion activities such as knitting, typing and operating a computer mouse. A brief rest and stretching of the fingers and rotating the wrist can short circuit possible complications.

These are just a few preventive measures that can make a big difference.
